THINGS TO DOHome » Things To Do

Fort Bragg is the town of beaches, with so many diverse ones to choose from. The water may be cold but our tide pools will keep you too occupied to think about it. A 10 minute walk north of the motel will take you to Virgin Creek a hot spot for local surfers that holds a beautiful sandy beach. 2 miles north at Mackerricher State Park there is a seal observation point where you and your family can observe at a close yet safe distance. At certain times of the year you can see the new baby pups being playful or watch the whales migrate. 2 miles south is Glass Beach, the towns previous dump, 50 years ago. As nature took its course, the ocean rounded off all of the glass that was left and made it one of the most interesting beaches on the coast. With the smooth glass in place of sand you can spend hours hunting through the many different colors. At low tide you can guess what old piece of machinery is now a tide pool, with sea anemones growing and hermit crabs crawling in and out of discarded pieces of cars and boats. And those are only a few of the many beaches in our area.

Another great attraction in Fort Bragg is the Skunk Train. While aboard the 1924 or 1935 vintage motorcars, you can take up to an 8 hour ride through the beautiful redwoods. 12 miles south is the town of Mendocino, about a 15 minute drive from Fort Bragg, a great town for the eccentric and curious. You can easily spend a whole day there exploring the different local galleries, shops, and beaches.   A beautiful spot to visit is the Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens. Just a mile south of Fort Bragg lies 47 acres of plant and wild life. With everything from Rhododendrons to Japanese Maples, there is always something beautiful to see there year round. So from the Point Cabrillo Lighthouse to horseback rides on the beach, Fort Bragg holds something interesting for everyone.  There are lots of great restaurants in Fort Bragg – Ask us about our favorites!
